After exploring Istanbul, take a domestic flight to Izmir (about 1 hour, fares starting from RM180). You can choose to stay for 1 night in Izmir and visit:

  • Konak Square and Clock Tower: The heart of Izmir and an iconic landmark.
  • Kadifekale (Velvet Castle): Offering panoramic views of the city.
  • Kemeralti Bazaar: A lively market with unique local crafts and food.

From Izmir, continue your journey to Uşak by bus or train.

Izmir to Uşak: Gateway to Qaroun’s Treasure

There are two main ways to travel from Izmir to Uşak:

  • By Bus:
    • Take a bus from Izmir Airport to the Otogar (1 hour, departures every hour).
    • From Izmir Otogar, board a bus to Uşak (2 hours 45 minutes, fares around MYR35-55).
  • By Train:
    • Take a shuttle bus from Izmir Airport to Izban Station (available every 15 minutes).
    • From Izban, take the Turkish Railways (TCDD) to Uşak. Trains depart at 6:51 AM, 2:45 PM, and 7:27 PM, with a travel time of 5 hours 11 minutes and fares ranging from MYR5 to MYR29.

 

Stay for 1 or 2 nights in Uşak and explore its highlights:

  • Uşak Museum: Home to the Karun Treasure (Lydian Hoard), linked to King Qaroun.
  • Karun Treasure Mound: Complements the museum visit with its historical significance.
  • Ulubey Canyon: One of the world’s largest canyons, ideal for nature enthusiasts.

 


Visiting the Uşak Museum: Unearthing Qaroun’s Legacy

Located in western Turkey, the Uşak Museum houses treasures linked to King Qaroun, believed to be part of the Lydian Hoard. These artifacts, including intricately crafted gold pieces, highlight the immense wealth Qaroun possessed.

Who Was King Qaroun?

Qaroun (Korah), as mentioned in Surah Al-Qasas (28:76-82), was a wealthy man from the time of Prophet Musa (Moses). His wealth was so vast that even the keys to his treasures were burdensome for a group of strong men to carry. However, Qaroun's arrogance and ungratefulness led to his downfall. Allah caused the earth to swallow him and his treasures as a punishment.


Uşak to Cappadocia: A Journey to a Fairy-Tale Land

From Uşak, travel to Cappadocia by either of the following:

  • By Bus:
    • Take a bus from Uşak Bus Station to Tapan Rest Station (6 hours 20 minutes, excluding a 30-minute transfer time at Tapan Rest Station).
    • From Tapan Rest Station, board a bus to Göreme Bus Station in Cappadocia (1 hour 40 minutes).
    • Total fare: MYR65-85.
    • Total travel time: Approximately 8 hours 30 minutes.
  • By Train/Bus:
    • Take a train from Uşak towards Konya at 2:00 AM, stopping at Banaz (40-minute journey).
    • At Banaz, you will have a 10-hour 41-minute stopover before taking a bus from Banaz to Göreme Bus Station in Cappadocia.
    • The bus journey takes approximately 8 hours 55 minutes, with stops at around 9 stations along the route.
  • By Taxi:
    • Hire a taxi directly from Uşak to Cappadocia.
    • Approximate cost: RM500.

Stay for 1 or 2 nights in Cappadocia to experience:

  • Hot Air Balloon Ride: Witness a surreal sunrise over the fairy chimneys.
  • Göreme Open-Air Museum: Explore ancient cave churches adorned with frescoes.

From Cappadocia, choose your mode of travel to Ankara:

  • By Train:
    • Take a taxi to Himmetdede (44 km from Cappadocia) and catch a train at 5:43 AM (fares MYR46-57 exclude tax fares).
    • Travel time: Approximately 8 hours.
    • Alternatively, depart at 5:55 PM, but this includes a 5-hour 46-minute stopover at Boğazköprü before continuing to Ankara.
  • By Bus:
    • Buses from Göreme to Ankara take about 5 hours 16 minutes, with fares ranging from MYR85-122.
    • Note: You will need to change buses at Nevşehir and AŞTİ before reaching Ankara.
  • By Flight:
    • Flights to Ankara usually connect via Istanbul, with a total travel time of about 4 hours 14 minutes.
    • Fare: Over MYR300.

 

Spend 1 or 2 nights in Ankara and visit:

  • Anıtkabir: Mausoleum of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk.
  • Museum of Anatolian Civilizations: Featuring ancient Turkish artifacts.
  • Kocatepe Mosque: A grand modern mosque.
