My journey to Kota Kinabalu began with an unexpected twist. Upon landing in Labuan, I was excited to explore this duty-free port, renowned for its cheap chocolates. I visited notable landmarks such as the Japanese Imperial Surrender Point and the Commonwealth War Memorial, followed by a sightseeing tour around town.

In the evening, I savored a delicious seafood meal featuring ketam at Tanjung Aru. The next day, I traveled to Kota Kinabalu by ferry via Menumbok.

The real adventure started with a ride in a private van, colloquially known as a "pirate." Unfortunately, I found myself cramped in the back seat, with barely enough legroom and a bumpy road adding to my discomfort.
Use two fingers to move the map

Unable to endure the narrow seats any longer and needing a restroom break, I requested to be dropped off at Kota Kinabalu International Airport. From there, I booked a Grab ride to my hotel. After checking in, I walked towards the Filipino Market for dinner. Initially, I thought this location was perfect for exploring the city. However, traveling solo, I soon felt uneasy. As I wandered around, I noticed a few people staring at me, which reminded me of a similar situation I had experienced in another city. I decided to order food from the market and take it back to my hotel room.

Island Hopping Tour (2 Island) From Kota Kinabalu
The next morning, feeling refreshed and ready for a new adventure, I joined a local tour operator for island hopping. The tour took me to the stunning islands off the coast of Kota Kinabalu, where I snorkeled in crystal-clear waters, soaked up the sun on pristine beaches, and marveled at the vibrant marine life. Each island had its unique charm, from the lush greenery of Gaya Island to the tranquil shores of Manukan Island.

After returning from the islands, I decided to spend my evening at the KK Waterfront. Sipping on a cup of coffee, I enjoyed the breathtaking view of the sunset over the open sea. The sky was painted in hues of orange and pink, creating a serene and picturesque backdrop. After dinner, I leisurely walked back to my hotel, feeling content and at peace.

Despite the initial bumps, my trip to Kota Kinabalu turned into an unforgettable adventure. The natural beauty of the islands, the warmth of the local people, and the serene moments at the waterfront left a lasting impression on me, making it a journey Ill always cherish.
