(Updated: 1447H / 2025)
🕋 What Is Zamzam Water?
Zamzam water is sacred to Muslims, drawn from the historic well of Zamzam near the Kaaba in Makkah. It is cherished for its spiritual, physical, and emotional healing qualities and holds deep significance for pilgrims and believers worldwide.
Because of its holy status, authenticity matters. Sadly, fake Zamzam water has become a growing issue—especially outside Saudi Arabia.

🛑 Don’t Be Fooled by Fake Zamzam Water Ads – Protect Yourself and Your Family
Recently, authorities in Sharjah, UAE, busted an illegal bottling operation where ordinary tap water was packaged and sold as “Zamzam water” at premium prices. This scam, discovered in a residential area, used fake branding and even forged invoices to appear genuine. The unhygienic and deceptive operation put both buyers’ health and trust at risk.

Unfortunately, these fake Zamzam water offers often appear on social media platforms like Facebook and WhatsApp, tempting people with “authentic Zamzam” at cheap prices or with home delivery.
Shortly after, authorities in Ajman also banned the commercial sale of Zamzam water to prevent similar scams.
Please be aware: If you see such ads, they are almost certainly a scam!

🇸🇦 What Does Saudi Arabia Say? – Zamzam Water Is Strictly Regulated
Saudi Arabia, as the custodian of the Zamzam well, has very strict rules regarding the sale and export of Zamzam water:
- Only official outlets in Makkah and Madinah can distribute Zamzam water—primarily to pilgrims.
- No commercial export is allowed. It is illegal to import Zamzam water for sale in other countries.
- Each pilgrim is permitted to carry one 5-liter bottle (properly sealed and labeled) home, usually purchased from the official airport outlet after Hajj or Umrah.
- Zamzam water sold outside these official channels—especially via social media—is unofficial and most likely fake.
❌ Risks of Fake Zamzam Water
- Health Risks: Fake Zamzam is often bottled in unhygienic conditions. It can be ordinary tap water, or worse, contaminated.
- Religious Concerns: Consuming water falsely labelled as Zamzam is a form of fraud and disrespect to this holy site.
- Legal Risks: Purchasing, selling, or distributing fake Zamzam can lead to prosecution in both Saudi Arabia and countries like the UAE.
📢 How to Protect Yourself
- NEVER buy Zamzam water from online ads or unregistered sellers. Only trust Zamzam brought back by you or a family member from an official source in Saudi Arabia.
- Be suspicious if you see Zamzam for sale in shops, markets, or on Facebook. Genuine Zamzam is not commercially exported or sold in bulk outside Saudi Arabia.
- Check the packaging: Official Zamzam bottles are always sealed, labeled, and have clear security markings.
- Educate others: Share this awareness with friends, family, and community groups to prevent others from being deceived.
